Nicolas Pepe given class welcome to Arsenal by new teammates on first day of training

Arsenal record signing Nicolas Pepe was given a classy reception by his new teammates as he took part in his first full training session with the Gunners on Friday. The Ivory Coast international officially completed his £72million move from Lille to the Emirates on Thursday evening, signing a long-term contract that makes him one of the highest paid players at the club. He has already struck up a bond with Alexandre Lacazette, who acted as translator for the winger as he underwent medical tests and was shown around London Colney.

Pepe has quickly befriended another Frenchman, too, in Matteo Guendouzi and made his way out to the training pitches alongside the midfielder – and frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – for his first full session on Friday. He greeted manager Unai Emery before the Spaniard gathered the players around in a circle and officially welcomed the 24-year-old to the club.

‘So with Pepe, it’s the first day with us today,’ said Emery, before the players broke out into a round of applause. He looked lively in training, gliding past Lucas Torreira – who was also making his return after his Copa America exploits – and is in line to make a first appearance in Sunday’s friendly clash with Barcelona.

Fellow summer arrival Dani Ceballos also took part in training, and the Gunners hope to add to their squad further before the transfer window closes. The north Londoners are looking to bring in Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, with Emery keen to bolster his back-line, while a new centre-back is also on their wishlist with both Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny likely to leave
